Arrive Paro by flight & Transfer to Thimpu
Druk Airways flight to Bhutan is one of the most spectacular in the entire Himalayas. Whether flying along with the Himalayan range from Kathmandu or over the foothills from Kolkata, each flight is a mesmerizing aeronautical feat and offers an exciting descent into the Kingdom. Bhutan’s first gift to you as you disembark from the aircraft will be cool, clean fresh mountain air. After immigration formalities and baggage collection, you will be met by our representative and drive to Thimphu. On arrival in Thimphu, (altitude 2400m/7875ft) check into the hotel. The capital town of Bhutan and the center of government, religion, and commerce, Thimphu is a unique city with an unusual mixture of modern development alongside ancient traditions. With a population of about 90,000, it is perhaps still the world’s only capital city without a traffic light. Later enjoy the unique experience of a Night tour of Thimphu to see the marvels of the city illuminated by light to show a different glimpse of the city. In this tour, you would get a glimpse of the beautiful city and the monuments such as the Memorial Chorten, Buddha View Point, BBS tower & Tashichoe Dzong Dinner and Overnight at the hotel in Thimphu.
Thimpu Sightseeing
In the morning we will visit the handmade paper mill, School of Arts and crafts (closed on Sundays, government holidays) where students learn 13 different arts used predominantly in Bhutan. Later visit the national library & Simply Bhutan museum. Also, experience Archery at the Museum Itself. Later drive past by memorial Chorten built in memory of the 3rd King. Visit Buddha viewpoint, Changangkha Lhakhang, the oldest temple in the valley, Enclosure where national animal, Takin are kept, and Zilukha Nunnery. Dinner & Overnight at the hotel in Thimphu. Conclude the tour of the day with a visit to Trashichhoedzong; the “fortress of the glorious religion”.This is the center of government and religion, the site of the monarch’s throne room, and the seat of Je Khenpo or Chief Abbot. Built-in 1641 by the political and religious unifier of Bhutan, Shabdrung Ngawang Namgyal, it was reconstructed in the 1960s in a traditional Bhutanese manner, without nails or architectural plans. Drive to Punakha
After breakfast at the hotel, drive to Punakha across Dochula pass at 3, 080 m. Dochula pass offers the most spectacular view over the high peaks of the eastern Himalayas on a clear day. Some of the most spectacular 7000+ meter peaks visible from here are Masagang (7,158m), Terigang (7,060m ), Jejegangphugang (7,158 m ), Kangphugang (7,170 m ), Zongphugang (7, 060 m ) and the highest in Bhutan - Gangkar puensum at 7,497m. Continue to drive along the scenic highway passing through an orchard, alpine forests, and small villages to Punakha. Enroute take a short excursion to Chimi Lakhang situated on a hillock in the center of the valley, is dedicated to Lama Drukpa Kuenley, who in the late 15th century used humor, songs, and outrageous behavior to dramatize his teachings, and due to this also known as ‘Divine Madman’. This temple is also known as the temple of fertility. It is widely believed that couples who do not have children and want one if they pray at this temple are usually blessed with a child very soon. It is about a 30-minute walk across the field from the road to the temple. The trail leads across rice fields to the tiny settlement of Pana, meaning ‘field’. It then follows a tiny stream downhill to Yoakam and across more fields before making a short climb to Chimi Lhakhang.
Punakha - Paro
After breakfast drive back to Paro descending back down from Dochu La, following the way back up the dramatic Wang Chhu and Paro Chhu river valleys, before crossing through Paro Town towards the north end of the valley. En route visit Simtokha Dzong, the place of profound tantric teaching, this dzong now houses a school for the study of the Dzongkha language. Later in the day after checking into the hotel, proceed to visit Ta Dzong, originally built as Watchtower, which now houses National Museum. The extensive collection includes antique thangka paintings, textiles, weapons & armor, household objects and a rich assortment of natural and historic artifacts. Then walk down the trail to visit Rinpung Dzong, meaning (“fortress of the heap of jewels”), which has a long and fascinating history. Along with the wooden galleries lining the inner courtyard are fine wall paintings illustrating Buddhist lore such as four friends, the old man of long life, the wheel of life, scenes from the life of Milarepa, Mount. Paro - Hike to the famous Tiger's Nest (5 Hrs Around Trip Walk)
The morning after breakfast, drive to Satsam Chorten. On arrival at the trailhead point, embark on a walking excursion to Taktshang Monastery: It is one of the most famous of Bhutan’s monasteries, perched on the side of a cliff 900m above the Paro valley floor. It is said that Guru Rinpoche arrived here on the back of a tigress and meditated at this monastery and hence it is called ‘Tiger’s Nest’. This site has been recognized as a most sacred place and visited by Shabdrung Ngawang Namgyal in 1646 and now visited by all Bhutanese at least once in their lifetime. On 19 April 1998, a fire severely damaged the main structure of building but now this Bhutanese jewel has been restored to its original splendor. After the excursion of Tiger, Nest return Enjoy an amazing hot stone bath to rejuvenate yourself. Later return back to your hotel for dinner and an overnight stay. Overnight at the hotel in Paro.
