Day 2
Marawila - Pinnawala - Sigiriya
After breakfast proceeds to Sigiriya. Sigiriya is an ancient rock fortress located in the northern Matale District near the town of Dambulla in the Central Province, of Sri Lanka. The name refers to a site of historical and archaeological significance that is dominated by a massive column of rock nearly 200 meters (660 ft) high. According to the ancient Sri Lankan chronicle the Culavamsa, this site was selected by King Kasyapa (477 – 495 CE) for his new capital. He built his palace on the top of this rock and decorated its sides with colorful frescoes. On a small plateau about halfway up the side of this rock, he built a gateway in the form of an enormous lion. The name of this place is derived from this structure —Sīhāgiri, the Lion Rock. The capital and the royal palace were abandoned after the king's death. It was used as a Buddhist monastery until the 14th century. Sigiriya today is a UNESCO-listed World Heritage Site. It is one of the best-preserved examples of ancient urban planning
En route, visit the Elephant Orphanage at Pinnawela. There you can see the bottle feeding of baby Elephants. See them at play. Accompany them to a river close by to see them having their daily bath.
Day 3
Sigiriya - Dambulla - Matale - Kandy
After Early breakfast climb the 5th century A.D Rock Fortress. See the mural paintings of ―Heavenly Maidens‖ over 1500 years old, which are in a sheltered pocket of the rock. Historians say originally there were close to 500 paintings but today only 19 exist. Also, visit the water and rock gardens and the King’s bath on the 600 feet palace-fortress. En-route visit the famous Rock Cave Temples at Dambulla, the most visited monastery. It is the most impressive cave temple in Sri Lanka, with five caves under a vast overhanging rock, carved with a drip line to keep the interiors dry. There are images of the Buddha, and Gods and Goddesses. There are innumerable painted sculptures, including a life-size effigy of the last Kandyan king and much older statues of Hindu gods.
Also, visit a Batik Factory and a Spice Garden at Matale. Here you would be shown the different varieties of spices grown and demonstration of their use.
Continue to Kandy……. Late evening visit to the Art and Crafts Centre, Gem Museum and Lapidary, and the world-famous ―Temple Of The Tooth Relic Of Lord Buddha
Day 4
Kandy - Peradeniya - Colombo
After early breakfast check out from the hotel & proceed to Colombo. Colombo is the largest city and commercial capital of Sri Lanka. Colombo is a busy and vibrant city with a mixture of modern life and colonial buildings and ruins and a city population of above 647,100.
En-route, Visit the Century old Botanical Garden at Peradeniya, with its amazing varieties of trees,plants and flowers. Reputed to be one of the best in the world with it’s hundreds of varieties of Roses and Orchids.
Late afternoon, Visit observing the old Parliament & Galle face Green, the colonial buildings in the fort area, the residential areas and the Vihara Mahadevi Park / the World Trade center – Twin Tower. The tour continues with a visit to Captains garden Hindu temple,Colombo museum and the Independence Square. (Locations could be adjusted on Request). Later visit shopping complex to do shopping.
Day 5
Colombo Airport
Buffet breakfast at Hotel. Have a rest in the morning at leisure or have a stroll around the City. Check-out from hotel by mid-day and depending on the flight time transfer to the airport for departure.
